Steampunk Keyboard Part I

Untitled

The Steampunk Keyboard Typewriter mod is a rite of passage for most steampunk modsters, therefore I felt it would be a great place to start with this blog. I’ve seen many different types of Steampunk keyboards out there, Datamancer being on of the best (http://www.datamancer.net/keyboards/keyboards.htm). His keyboards have even made it on the Syfy show Warehouse 13 (http://www.notcot.com/images/2009/07/warehouse131.jpg) . Something I have yet to see, that will help my particular mod stand out, is I will be going with a tenkeyless model. (Tenkeyless meaning that a keyboard lacks the number pad on the right hand side.) I love these because of the space it creates on the desk, as well as allows the mouse to remain closer to the keyboard. The best part about using this style of keyboard is that when completed it has the chance of more closely resembling an authentic antique typewriter.

Nevertheless, here is a photo of the starting product I picked up off of Amazon.com.

Filco Majestouch-2, Tenkeyless, NKR, Click Action, USA Keyboard (http://tinyurl.com/filco10keyless)
I’ll be posting pictures of the process as I go along.

@Ryan Yes. Though because of the ease of replacing keys, I can just as easy restore it to original working order if I get tired of it.

Does this offend you inner nerd/geek? Or do you take issue with Filco keyboards?

The big thing I wanted was the Tenkeyless that Clicks… I’ll blog more on this topic this weekend.

      Thanks for reading and commenting

I like how your going to modify a mechanical keyboard it. The build quality will propably make it easier then modding a rubber dome keyboard.
